‘Bloodaxe’ Teaser Trailer Revealed By Prime Video At New York Comic Con, Premiere Date Set

Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for Bloodaxe, the Norse saga from Vikings creator Michael Hirst and his son, Horatio Hirst, and revealed the premiere date at a New York Comic Con panel.

What is ‘Bloodaxe’ about?

The description reads, “In Season One, Bloodaxe chronicles the rise of one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux), and his formidable wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Jessica Madsen). As they fight for the throne of Norway, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom, drawing in the ruthless Kings of other Scandinavian countries, and even a powerful English ruler, the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Norse Saga.”

The Hirsts joined cast members Molyneux, Madsen and Levi Miller for a panel moderated by Nerdist editor-in-chief Rotem Rusak. It was the first time the group discussed the 10th-century Norway-set series publicly. The teaser key art carries the tagline “Only one will rule.”

As previously announced, Prime Video has renewed the series for Season 2, which is in production in Ireland.

Who stars in ‘Bloodaxe’?

Season 1 stars Molyneux, Madsen, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte and Jesper Christensen.

Michael and Horatio Hirst showrun, write and executive produce. Morgan O’Sullivan of O’Sullivan Productions, Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin also executive produce. The series is produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.

When does ‘Bloodaxe’ premiere?

All eight episodes of Season 1 premiere Jan. 20, 2027, on Prime Video.
