How Old Is Lala on ‘Big Brother’? Inside LaTrice Verrett’s Historic HOH Win

LaTrice Verrett, known in the Big Brother 28 house as Lala, became the oldest civilian houseguest to win the CBS show’s Head of Household Wall competition, a physical endurance challenge that’s historically favored younger competitors. At 58, Verrett’s Week 5 win puts her one year shy of the all-time franchise record, held by Kato Kaelin, who won the same competition at 59 on Celebrity Big Brother, according to Gold Derby.

How old is Lala on Big Brother?

Verrett is 58. She entered the Big Brother 28 house at 57 and turned 58 on July 14, five days into the season, according to TV Insider. She’s originally from Kankakee, Illinois, and now lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, where she works as a boutique salesperson.

Lala’s music and family background

Verrett’s résumé predates her reality TV run by decades. TV Insider reports she spent years performing with the Grammy-winning vocal and instrumental ensemble Sounds of Blackness, and that her uncle is Robert “Kool” Bell of Kool & the Gang, the group behind hits like “Celebration” and “Jungle Boogie.” Her mother worked as the band’s tour coordinator. Verrett has also made guest television appearances, including on The View and The Dr. Oz Show.

Verrett is a mother of four and divorced after 23 years of marriage, per the outlet. She’s said she’d welcome a showmance if a man closer to her age turns up in the house, though the Season 28 cast skews decades younger.

The fallout from Lala’s HOH win

Verrett’s win set off a chain of events that reshaped the house. She nominated Haley Thogmartin and Chuk Anyanwu for eviction, and the house voted to evict Anyanwu. Yash Patel went on to win the Week 6 HOH competition that followed.
