Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video showcased The Greatest, the first authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali, with an exclusive first look and conversation at the 2026 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. The series is produced with the support of Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, and stars Jaalen Best as Cassius Clay.
What is ‘The Greatest’ about?
Per the official description, “The Greatest is an intimate exploration of the incomparable life of the boxing champion, humanitarian and global icon. Executive produced by Lonnie Ali, the widow of the late luminary, The Greatest is the first authorized scripted series about the life of Muhammad Ali, offering unprecedented access and going beyond the amazing victories and defeats that made Ali a legend, both in and out of the ring.”
What happened at the ‘The Greatest’ Martha’s Vineyard panel?
The conversation featured executive producer Lonnie Ali, showrunner and executive producer Ben Watkins and lead actor Jaalen Best, moderated by journalist Joy Reid. According to the press release, the panel “explored the emotional depth, historical authenticity, and cultural significance of bringing Ali’s story to the screen with the official backing of his estate.”

Best leads as Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali, alongside Omari Hardwick, Dana Gourrier, Amin Joseph, Kai Parham, Michael Ealy and Giovanni Ribisi.
Ben Watkins created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Lonnie Ali, Elizabeth Raposo, Corey Salter, Marc Rosen, Matthew Gross, Aiyana White, Jeff Augustin, Owen Shiflett, Michele Anthony, Boyd Muir and Josh Wakely. David Blackman and Stefano Agosto serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced by Blue Monday Productions, Outlier Society, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment and Grace: A Storytelling Company.
