Paramount Pictures has released the first official trailer for Children of Blood and Bone, giving audiences their first real look at the world of Orïsha and the film’s star-studded ensemble. As previously reported, the film is adapted from Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
According to the official description, the film is set “in the epic fantasy world of Orïsha,” where “a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.” The trailer showcases the film’s massive scope, its African fantasy world and a cast that ranges from newcomers to multiple Oscar winners and nominees.
The ensemble includes Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg and Tosin Cole, with Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, Regina King as Queen Nehanda, Idris Elba and Viola Davis. Eleven new character posters were also released alongside the trailer.
The trailer, set to Beyoncé’s “Energy,” comes after a trailer launch event that was held in New York City the night before the trailer’s public release, where Prince-Bythewood and several cast members were in attendance The trailer also brings two music announcements: Grammy Award winner Tems has been named executive music producer of the upcoming soundtrack, with Burna Boy serving as executive music consultant. Both artists contribute new original songs featured in the trailer.
Prince-Bythewood directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with Adeyemi. Wyck Godfrey, John Fischer, Isaac Klausner, Karen Rosenfelt and Matt Jackson produce. A Temple Hill and Sunswept Entertainment production for Paramount Pictures.
