Crutch, the Tracy Morgan comedy series that debuted on Paramount+ in November 2025, will not return for a second season, Deadline and Variety confirm. The news comes as little surprise, as per Deadline cast options expired at the end of last year, effectively ending the show months ago.
The fate of the series was largely sealed following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount, after which Cindy Holland, chair of direct-to-consumer, made clear that multi-camera comedies would not be a programming priority for the streamer given that CBS already excels in the genre and those shows air next day on Paramount+, Deadline reported. Crutch was the last remaining original comedy on Paramount+, which currently has no comedy orders or buys in development and no head of comedy. It’s also worth noting Crutch had a long journey to air, as it stayed on the shelf at Paramount+ about a year after filming wrapped before it aired, and then seemingly was dropped to little fanfare from Paramount+.
Morgan had also already taken on another series commitment. He now stars in the NBC comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, which debuted in January 2026 and was renewed for a second season in May. By the time of that renewal, Morgan had already moved from second position to first on Reggie Dinkins following the lapse of his Crutch option, according to Deadline. The rest of the cast has also moved on to other projects.
The cancellation is notable given that Crutch , centered on Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, “a brash, yet beloved Harlem shop owner whose world is turned upside down when his highbrow son and free-spirited daughter move back into the family home.”
Jermaine Fowler, Kecia Lewis, Adrianna Mitchell, Adrian Martinez, Braxton Paul and Finn Maloney starred alongside Morgan. The series was created by Owen Smith, who also served as executive producer and showrunner. Cedric The Entertainer and Eric C. Rhone executive produced alongside Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, Mike Mariano and Morgan. The series was produced by CBS Studios.
