With every other major streamer in the dating space, Apple TV has announced The Last Person on Earth, its first dating documentary series. The eight-episode show pairs people who appear to be complete opposites, guided by renowned couples therapist and New York Times bestselling author Esther Perel, alongside a team of matchmakers and therapists.
Perel said in a statement, “Over the course of my career as a couples therapist, one truth has become undeniable: love may crave closeness, but desire is fueled by otherness. ‘The Last Person on Earth’ is a bold exploration of relationships that challenges everything we assume about compatibility, inviting people to drop the checklist and embrace dating as an adventure into the unknown. When we choose to step outside the narrow boundaries of what feels familiar or safe, passionate love stories can flourish.”
Per Apple TV, in the series, “couples who appear to be opposites are expertly paired by Perel and a team of matchmakers and therapists, before embarking on an adventure in one of the world’s most romantic and remote destinations. With more single people than ever before, and increasing levels of polarization and social isolation, this innovative experiment asks the question: could the last person on Earth you think you’d ever want to date end up being the one person you can’t live without? And will an unexpected pairing in paradise open their horizons and be the beginning of a life-changing relationship?”
The Last Person on Earth comes from Boldprint Studios and is executive produced by Dan Gray, Lou Hutchinson and Phil Harris. Josh Jacobs serves as series director, with Olly Lambert also directing.
