LaRoyce Hawkins is set to exit NBC’s Chicago P.D. after 13 seasons. Deadline first reported then news, with Variety later confirming. Hawkins, an original cast member since the series’ 2014 premiere, will exit as a series regular in Season 14, with his character Kevin Atwater’s storyline being wrapped up in the first two or three episodes of the upcoming season, per Deadline.
Exactly how Atwater exits is being kept under wraps.
How might Kevin Atwater’s exit play out?
Deadline reports that Chicago P.D. is now casting a new series regular, described as a Black cop who is an agent of chaos, suggesting the show is already moving to fill Atwater’s spot.
Deadline also notes that Season 13 laid the groundwork for a potential goodbye. In Episode 5, Atwater reconnected with Officer Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom), a former platonic friend turned lover who revealed she was moving to Miami for a new job. Before he woke up the next morning, she was gone, leaving behind an orange as an invitation to join her. Later in Episode 11, Fox returned to Chicago pregnant with their first child. If Atwater follows her to Miami, Deadline notes, it would not be a surprise.
Who else has left ‘Chicago P.D.’?
Hawkins joins fellow original cast members Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos in exiting the drama. Ahead of Season 13, Toya Turner also departed after one season as Officer Kiana Cook, with Arienne Mandi joining as Officer Eva Imani.
Chicago P.D. stars Jason Beghe, Patrick John Flueger, Marina Squerciati, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, Amy Morton and Mandi. The series is produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment.
When does ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 14 premiere?
Chicago P.D. Season 14 premieres Oct. 7 on NBC, alongside Chicago Fire Season 15 and Chicago Med Season 12.
