Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti And Halle Bailey Star In Trailer For Jesse Eisenberg’s A24 Film ‘The Debut’

,

A24 has released the trailer for The Debut, the third feature directed by Jesse Eisenberg, following A Real Pain and When You Finish Saving the World. The film stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti and arrives this fall.

What is ‘The Debut’ about?

According to the official description, “When Mona Friedman is cast in a bit part at a small community theater, she transforms from a shy, unassuming housewife into a zealous method actor willing to do anything to protect the artistic integrity of her marginal role — even if it means waging war against the show’s domineering director.”

Per IndieWire, the film draws partly from Eisenberg’s Off-Broadway play Happy Talk, which starred Susan Sarandon, and repurposes original music Eisenberg wrote for an unproduced musical over a decade ago. He told the outlet, “I wrote a musical 15 years ago, and it never got produced, and the next movie I’m making takes place in the world of community theater, and I’m able to repurpose music that I wrote.”

Who stars in ‘The Debut’?

Alongside Moore and Giamatti, the cast includes Halle Bailey, Eisenberg, Cara Buono, Craig Bierko, Eldar Isgandarov and Bernadette Peters.

Eisenberg wrote and directed the film. Emma Stone, Dave McCary, Ali Herting and Eisenberg produce. It is from Topic Studios and Fruit Tree.

When does ‘The Debut’ open in theaters?

The Debut opens in theaters this fall.
