Netflix has released the trailer for The Last House, a new sci-fi thriller directed by Louis Leterrier. The film stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura as a couple who, along with their two children, suddenly find themselves locked inside their home with no means of escape and a mysterious threat keeping them trapped.
What is ‘The Last House’ about?
According to the official description, the film follows “a family of four are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.” As Netflix’s Tudum notes, what begins as a single day stretches into weeks and eventually years, as the family has no explanation for what is happening.
Leterrier described the premise to Tudum, saying, “Food is dwindling, and this family has to rely on each other and try to understand what comes next. What’s locking them in, and how will they survive?”
Lee told Tudum of what drew her to the project, “Growing up, my favorite things to watch and read were survivalist stories with a twist. I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it.”
Moura added, “I think people are going to recognize themselves in this film. Everybody is a parent or son or daughter. We have dysfunctional families or happy families. It goes beyond culture. It’s an animal instinct we all have within ourselves — for protection, love, humor, and conflict, too.”
Who stars in ‘The Last House’?
Lee and Moura lead the cast alongside Riley Chung and Noah Alexander Sosnowski as the couple’s children, with Emma Ho and Gabriel Barbosa playing older versions of the two as the story progresses. The film is written by Matthew Robinson and produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson, Leterrier and Oly Obst.
When does ‘The Last House’ premiere?
The Last House arrives Aug. 7 on Netflix.
