Starz has released the first teaser trailer for Fightland, a new family crime drama set against London’s boxing scene. Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the series marks his first internationally produced show through G-Unit Film & Television.
What is ‘Fightland’ about?
According to the official description, the series follows Duke Kilroy (Howard Charles), who on the night he becomes world heavyweight champion, suffers a devastating loss when his brother Calvin is killed in a vicious assault. Duke’s reaction costs him eight years in a U.S. prison. Upon his release, “after having made a sinister discovery, Duke returns home seeking vengeance against the man he believes set him up — the criminal kingpin and former promoter, Kingsley Marshall (Nicholas Pinnock). But Kingsley has vanished, leaving his children and wife, Joy (Deborah Ayorinde), who happens to be the love of Duke’s life, to pick up the pieces.”
Who stars in ‘Fightland’?
Alongside Charles, Pinnock and Ayorinde, the cast includes Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Charles Babalola, Tahirah Sharif, Tyler Conti and Richard Pepple.
The series is created by Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, with Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr. serving as showrunners. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson executive produces through G-Unit Film & Television alongside Francis Hopkinson and Kate Leadbetter of Expanded Media. Otto Bathurst directs and executive produces the first two episodes. Fightland is Starz’s first wholly owned series.
When does ‘Fightland’ premiere?
Fightland premieres July 31 on Starz, with new episodes streaming weekly on Fridays.
