‘The Other Bennet Sister’ Christmas Special First Look Revealed By BritBox

BritBox has revealed a first look at the three-part Christmas special of The Other Bennet Sister, continuing the story of Mary Bennet following the events of the series’ first 10 episodes. Produced by Bad Wolf for the BBC and BritBox North America, the special recently wrapped production in Wales.

Who stars in ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ Christmas special?

Ella Bruccoleri returns as Mary, alongside Dónal Finn as her husband, Tom Hayward. The series’ 10th episode saw Mary agree to marry Tom, leaving open the question of who she’ll become as Mrs. Hayward.

Also returning are Ruth Jones as Mrs. Bennet, Tanya Reynolds as Caroline Bingley, Laurie Davidson as Mr. Ryder, Varada Sethu as Ann Baxter, Poppy Gilbert as Lizzie Darcy, Maddie Close as Jane Bingley, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Lydia Wickham, Molly Wright as Kitty Buncock and Anna Fenton-Garvey as Charlotte Collins. Nerys Amber Stocks joins the cast as Mary’s housemaid, Lucy.

Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell, who wrote nine of the series’ 10 episodes, wrote all three additional episodes based on storylines by author Janice Hadlow. Asim Abbasi returns to direct.

What is ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ about?

Based on Hadlow’s novel of the same name, the series follows Mary Bennet, the often-overlooked middle sister in Pride and Prejudice, as she navigates the societal pressures of Regency England, where marriage is both aspiration and necessity.

According to the streamer, In its first 90 days on service in North America, the series drove five times more new subscribers than any previous launch and achieved the highest streaming rate of any title launch on the service. Nearly half of BritBox’s active subscribers, 47%, watched the series in that window, which also helped drive the strongest quarter of subscriber growth in BritBox’s history and the service’s highest-ever week of signups.

The three-part special will air on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada, and on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the U.K.

The special is commissioned by Jon Farrar, chief content officer, direct to consumer, BBC Studios, for BritBox North America, and Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter executive produce for Bad Wolf, alongside Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, Robert Schildhouse, Farrar and Jess O’Riordan for BritBox, and Quintrell and Hadlow. Bad Wolf managing director Dan McCulloch and chief creative officer Ryan Rasmussen developed and oversaw the special. The series is produced by Bad Wolf, the studio behind His Dark Materials and Industry, with support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales. Sony Pictures Television distributes the series internationally.
