Michael, the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic starring Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, is making its streaming debut on Starz in August.
As we previously reported, the film became available to purchase and rent on demand in June following its theatrical run. It has since crossed $1 billion at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing biopic of all time, surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody, and the highest-grossing Lionsgate release ever.
According to the official description, the film traces Jackson’s journey “from his extraordinary beginnings as the breakout star of the Jackson 5 to the visionary artist whose unmatched talent and relentless ambition made him the biggest entertainer in the world,” featuring performances from his early solo career alongside an intimate look at the man behind the music.
Alongside Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, the film stars Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Laura Harrier and Miles Teller. A sequel covering the later chapters of Jackson’s career is also in early development.
Michael joins Starz’s expanding film lineup alongside The Housemaid and Shelter, currently streaming on the platform. Also arriving on Starz in August: Beast starring Russell Crowe premieres Aug. 8, new episodes of Fightland continue weekly on Fridays and Power Book III: Raising Kanan reaches its series finale Aug. 7.
When does ‘Michael’ premiere on Starz?
Michael premieres Aug. 10 on the Starz app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms, with the channel premiere the same day at 7 p.m. ET.
