Pedro Pascal Picks Up The Cello In First Teaser For Tony Gilroy’s ‘Behemoth!’

,

Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for Behemoth!, the new film from Tony Gilroy, marking his first theatrical feature in 14 years. Pedro Pascal leads the cast in what Gilroy has described as his most personal film and a love letter to movie music and the people who make it.

Oscar Isaac was originally attached to star beginning in early 2025, but exited the project last August due to scheduling conflicts, per Deadline. Pascal subsequently stepped in. Separately, David Harbour was originally set to take what became Will Arnett’s role, but dropped out in January after being overwhelmed by the final season of Stranger Things, per Variety.

The project marks the first lead role of Pascal’s film career. Pascal told Vanity Fair of his connection to the role, “I remember reading the script and being like, f**k, I want this.” He also described cello training as the hardest skill he has ever had to learn, harder even than the physical demands of Gladiator Ii.

What is ‘Behemoth!’ about?

According to the official description, the film follows “a gifted cellist, Alex Serian (Pascal), returns home to Los Angeles after 20 years on the road. Music, which has been the constant, all-consuming river of his life, begins to carry Alex on an adventure that will change him forever.”

The score features nine composers billed as The Behemoth! Collective, including Michael Giacchino, James Newton Howard and Alan Silvestri.

Who stars in ‘Behemoth!’?

Alongside Pascal, the cast includes Olivia Wilde, Eva Victor, Alexa Swinton, Kaya Ralls, Erik Griffin, JoBeth Williams, Margarita Levieva, Hank Azaria and Will Arnett. Gilroy writes, directs and produces alongside John Gilroy and Sanne Wohlenberg. Cinematography is by Damián García.

When does ‘Behemoth!’ open in theaters?

Behemoth! opens in select theaters Dec. 4.
