Daniel Kaluuya is reteaming with Judas and the Black Messiah director Shaka King for The Parlay, a new action-crime feature at Amazon MGM Studios. Deadline first reported this news, along with the information that Teyana Taylor, fresh off her Oscar-nominated turn in One Battle After Another, is circling to star.
According to Deadline, Kaluuya is the one who brought King and Taylor together for the project, which is based on an original spec script by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Akers, Bronkie and King are currently revising the screenplay together. Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the film is being described as an action-crime thriller.
Judas and the Black Messiah earned Kaluuya the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and picked up six Oscar nominations overall, including Best Picture. Since then, Kaluuya has been selective with his screen work, with Nope and a voice role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse among his most prominent credits.
Adam McKay and Todd Schulman of HyperObject Industries will produce alongside King and Brandon Harris of I’d Watch That, and Kaluuya through his 59% Productions banner.
No production start date or an expected release date have been set.
