General Hospital on ABC is losing a key player on the show who has portrayed a legacy character for several years. Kate Mansi, who has played Kristina Corinthos-Davis, is now leaving the ABC soap opera.
Soap Opera Network broke the news of Mansi’s exit on Saturday, writing, “According to sources, Mansi opted not to renew her contract with the soap opera and has already finished taping at the show’s Prospect Studios-based set in Hollywood. At press time, a final air date for Mansi was unknown, and details were unavailable on whether the show plans to recast the role.”
Mansi later confirmed the news to veteran soap opera journalist Stephanie Sloane for her newsletter.
Kate Mansi’s ‘General Hospital’ exit, explained
“I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital,” Mansi told Sloane. “I have a few new projects that require my full attention and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”
She added, “I’m incredibly grateful to Frank, ABC, and our writers for the care they gave Kristina. It’s been such a meaningful and unforgettable ride. I’ve loved being a fiery Corinthos-Davis girl in such a phenomenal family.”
Mansi also gave kudos to the show for allowing her to dive into important, topical themes through the role of Kristina. “When Frank first approached me about the role, two things deeply resonated with me: the opportunity to show my support for the queer community by playing an LGBTQ+ character, and to help tell an endometriosis storyline,” she said. “Together, I truly feel we honored both of those stories in a way that mattered. And the fact that I got to direct was simply the icing on the cake! Now, it feels like the right time for both Kristina and me to step into new adventures.”
What ‘General Hospital’ says about Kate Mansi’s exit
Also to Stephanie Sloane, General Hospital commented on Mansi’s exit, with executive producer Frank Valentini telling Sloane, “We love Kate and support her decision to leave. The door is always open, and we appreciate all that she added to the show these past three years.”
Kate Mansi’s history on ‘General Hospital and ‘Days of Our Lives’
Before General Hopsital, Mansi notably played another legacy character, Abigal Deveraux, on Days of our Lives. She played the character from 2011 to 2016, then again from 2018 to 2020.
She’s played Kristina Corinthos Davis, the daughter of characters Sonny Corinthos and Alexis Davis, since 2023. She was the third non-child actor to play the role, following Lexi Ainsworth who played the character as a teen and young adult from 2009 to 2011, before returning and playing her from 2015 to 2023, right before Mansi took over the role. Lindsey Morgan briefly played the character in between Ainsworth’s stints, from 2011 to 2012.
